Southwood is a mid size suburban residential community in SW Calgary established in 1960, adjacent to Southcentre Mall to the east of the community. There are superior road and transit connections available here due to its location between Southland Drive and Anderson Road, along with the Southland and Anderson LRT Stations both within walking distance of many homes. It has a population of 6,357 living in 2,560 dwellings. 53% of the homes here are single family detached houses, most original to the neighbourhood, in the 60’s surburban bungalow style (single story, detached alley facing garage). 20% of the homes are townhouses, and apartments and duplexes both having a 10% share. The community’s eastern border is 14th St, which is the future route of a BRT that will provide residents on the western side with highly improved downtown transit connectivity. Both Glenmore Reservoir and Fish Creek Provincial Park are within 10 minute’s drive of the community, along with Heritage Park, providing a plurality of family destinations to try out. Large greenspace is interspersed throughout the community and not more than a few minute walk from any home here. Southcentre Mall provides for most major shopping amenities. Southwood is a great option for either an income property or home to live in – 58% of homes are occupied by the owner, so this neighbourhood is not dominated by owners or renters.
